SCOPE OF ROLE

Reporting to the Manager, Behavioral Health Services the Victim/Family Advocate is responsible for providing advocacy services to child victims and their families while at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC). You will serve to support the client and their family to answer questions about the investigative and court processes, and treatment options. As an Advocate, you will communicate regularly with the child's family to ensure their needs are being met and determining if further support or resources are needed throughout the life of the case.

HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED


  • Maintain and uphold the most appropriate demonstration of professionalism at all times.

  • Partner closely with the family in completing all necessary paperwork at the Advocacy Center, and provide them with education and assistance with victim's rights and crime victim's compensation.

  • Provide assistance for the child and family to be able to immediately access services recommended by the team, both before and following their appointment.

  • Help answer questions from the child and family related to the investigative process and, assess the family's individual and cultural needs and provide feedback to the assigned Child Protective Services case worker and/or law enforcement officer.

  • Provide risk assessment, intervention and safety planning for children and family members at all stages of involvement with the CAC.

  • Assist families with procuring concrete services such as housing, protective orders, domestic violence intervention, public assistance, etc.

  • Regular participation in case review to communicate and discuss the family's needs and ensure the family's concerns are heard.

  • Provide case status updates to the family including status of investigations, court dates, dispositions, sentencing and inmate status, throughout the involvement with the case.

  • Completes initial 24-hour online training through CAC and maintains eight hours of ongoing training every two years.

  • Coordinate with other Victim Advocates, either through the court system or other agencies, to avoid duplication of services and to ensure individuals and families are fully supported throughout the investigative/court process.

  • Maintain accurate and thorough written documentation of any contact/interactions with victims/families following the initial interview or subsequent follow-ups.

  • Maintains proper tracking of NCA information and follow up.

  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

  • Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.

  • May be required to perform telehealth services as determined by Signature Health.

  • Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.

  • Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.

  • Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.

  • Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE


  • Associates degree in human services or related field required. Bachelor's Degree in a human services discipline preferred.

  • 2 years of experience in Human Services discipline preferred.

  • Must possess an understanding of the dynamics of child abuse, neglect and domestic violence, and have a demonstrated empathy and commitment to the population served.

  • Must have the ability to collaborate with the MDT members and community partners and relay written and verbal communication effectively.

  • Must be able to assess client and family needs during traumatic times, handle details of child sexual abuse and provide support to emotionally vulnerable families and children.

  • General knowledge of child welfare and law enforcement.

  • Valid unencumbered Ohio driver's license and proof of driver's insurance required.

  • Demonstration of strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Must have enthusiasm, integrity, and positive demeanor.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.

  • While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.

  • Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.

  • Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

  • Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

  • Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.

  • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.

  • Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
