JOB RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Patient Care: Participates in and supports surgical procedures including assistance with and setup of surgical equipment, instruments and supplies. Demonstrates basic understanding of surgical procedures in which one participates, including knowledge of surgical technology and the ability to appropriately respond to planned and unplanned events. Reviews surgery plan to prepare for procedure, focusing on the cost-effective provision of supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care. Utilizes surgical plan as the resource for opening or holding on necessary implants/supplies, with knowledge of resources to utilize for questions. Follows best practices and procedures in the provision of safe surgical patient care, escalating any potential patient and employee safety issues.



  • Leadership & Development: Engages in safety culture with active participation in patient safety huddles. Demonstrates openness to coaching and mentoring from others. Active engagement in shared governance activities, unit recycling opportunities, and participation with unit process improvement activities. Engages in professional development to promote safe patient care.



  • Collaboration: Uses shared decision making, engaging in multidisciplinary team process and actively participating in effective problem solving, collegial learning and pursuit of best practices. Knowledge of patient situational awareness and of escalation plan. Deals with conflicts directly, constructively and tactfully, resolving basic issues and escalating when necessary. Supports an atmosphere of collaboration, respect and trust within the team. Responsive to day-to-day needs of colleagues.



  • Patient Advocacy: Works on behalf of patient and family; aware of ethical conflicts/issues between personal and patient values that may surface in clinical setting. Aware of patient rights and represents patient when patient cannot represent self. Encourages cultural diversity and recognizes the potential impact of culture on the patient/family experience; incorporates culturally diverse concepts into patient care. Makes decisions guided by rules and best practices. Escalates issues for assistance in difficult situations.



  • Compliance: Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.





JOB QUALIFICATIONS



  • Associate's degree from an accredited school for Surgical Technology or a related field


  • Prior Surgical Technologist experience preferred


  • Surgical Technologist certification within one year of hire


  • Maintain Surgical Technologist certification through participation in continuing education
