Main Function: Under indirect supervision, performs quality diagnostic and invasive ultrasound procedures by protocol and approved procedure. Operates sophisticated ultrasound equipments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of diagnostic and invasive ultrasound procedures to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. Assists with the workflow of the section to ensure completion of all work assignments prior to end of shift.
Identify each patient according to hospital policy and review each patient's order for consistency requested with pertinent clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.
Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper patient care practices.
Reviews each completed examination for completeness, technical accuracy and proper and accurate measuring: documents sonographer preliminary report: presents completed examination to radiologist and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
Processes all patients, by end of shift, placing all exams in Begin Exam/End Exam status in Epic for proper billing and documentation.
Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician's orders.
Contributes to the efficient operation of the section, assists the supervising sonographer with administrative duties of the section, and participates in the Ultrasound On-Call schedule.
Takes an active role in the education of students assigned to this individual.
Participates in the Ultrasound Section On-Call schedule.
Reports all safety hazards and/or equipment malfunctions that could harm patients, visitors, and staff to appropriate supervisor immediately.
Maintains proper stocking and cleanliness of ultrasound equipment and rooms.
Establishes and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with department staff, hospital staff, patients, families, physicians, and hospital visitors.
As identified in the department specific competency plan, demonstrates:
• The technical competency to provide quality care to age specific population.
• The ability to assess the developmental needs of age specific population.
• The ability to use equipment in a safe and proper manner.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School, RDMS Registry preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Recent graduate of approved programs. Preferred registry in OB/GYN
and Abdomen/Small Parts.
CONTACTS: Hospital personnel, physicians, patients, family members, and visitors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Moving patients, standing/walking the majority of the time,
and wrist stress.
WORKING CONDITION: Well lit and ventilated.
HAZARDS: Possible exposure to body fluid.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Registry or eligibility as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Current CPR certification.
