American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for a Manufacturing Quality Engineer in Springboro, Ohio.



Job Summary:



The Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of the parts produced meet all customer expectations. In the event, there are non-conformances this role will quickly and effectively take necessary actions to identify root-cause analysis and partner with engineering and operations to resolve. The Manufacturing Quality Engineer has the authority to stop the line or shipments but must lead the resolution and recovery.



Responsibilities:


  • Develop, collect, and report leading metrics of internal and supplier performance to cross-functional management. Includes monitoring quality & scrap and polices the line through the 3/5/10 rule.

  • Support and drive APQP readiness for new products and deliverables: MSA, Inspection/Testing, and more.

  • Develop and submit Customer PPAP (Production Parts Approval Process) documents if required for new product launches.

  • Develop and lead internal process improvements that minimize production costs and defects.

  • Implement and monitor process capability for continuous improvement.

  • Provide process design input to Manufacturing Engineering to enhance manufacturability and product cost.

  • Co-work with Engineering & Supply Base to create an efficient manufacturing assembly line, specifying and/or refining bill of materials (BOMs), workflow processes, and detailed NPI work instructions.

  • Provide technical support analyzing and/or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies, and field returns. Apply appropriate use of statistical techniques.

  • Lead/participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on material cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and streamlining of the supply chain.

  • Gain the commitment of both internal departments and supplier organizations to remedy non-conforming practices while maintaining positive and productive working relationships.

  • Read, understand and verify bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, engineering tolerances, and other technical information.

  • Manage changes and deviations (product, process, supplier, documentation).

  • Defines, with Supplier Quality Engineer, First Article acceptance criteria and ongoing Receiving Inspection criteria with assistance from the Engineering team.

  • Makes recommendations to Engineering and Purchasing regarding supplier selection.

  • Coordinate pre-launch production trial run process monitoring. As well as communication with, and transfer of knowledge to, the Production Manufacturing/Quality Team.

  • Review and approve manufacturing & quality data and Product Sign Offs.

  • Understand schedules and capacity to ensure suppliers are prepared to meet production demand.

  • Apply Industrial Engineering concepts and tools to drive safety, accuracy, and productivity within the supply chain and company.

  • Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes. Review and analyze results. Recommend changes to processes based on findings and perform follow-ups to verify effectiveness.

  • Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

  • Liaise with customers to foster root-cause analysis, problem solving, defect reduction, issue resolution, and increased customer satisfaction.

  • Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action through structured problem-solving methodologies.

  • Supports daily and weekly activities managing the facility's quality systems.

  • Focus on the on the floor support of the development processes to ensure timely launch of the new projects.

  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.

  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

  • Predictable and reliable attendance.




Position Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a certified quality management system (e.g., TS 16949, ISO).

  • Minimum of four (4) years of a proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong understanding of the measurement tools used in manufacturing and proven experience applying knowledge to perfecting in-place methodologies.

  • Experience in the automotive industry; Battery, Electronics, or Powertrain manufacturing preferred.

  • Previous work experience in an organization that supplied large OEMs preferred.

  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e., intuitive understanding of mechanical processes).

  • Customer quality assurance experience.

  • Prolonged periods standing and / or walking in an industrial environment: namely the production floor.

  • Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.

  • May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.

  • Works in temperature-controlled manufacturing and office environments and in industrial environments where safety shoes and safety glasses are mandatory.

  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud.

  • Works in an environment with high voltage electricity present on the mfg. lines which may require the use of personal protective equipment to protect the safety of the person.

  • May be required to recognize small numbers, letters, symbols, colors on prints, and/or operate field instruments/equipment.

  • Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, stoop, push, pull, stand, and carry as needed to inspect, service, and operate machinery, equipment, and gauges.

  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines and inspect parts produced.

  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.

  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
