Funding: General FundsOther Conditions: For placement into the lecturer pool beginning Spring 2024. Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Under general supervision, conduct lecture and as appropriate, laboratory courses in the discipline.

  2. Assist in the teaching of the didactic and continuing education programs.

  3. Assist in medical education curriculum development and evaluation for EMS Programs.

  4. Contribute to the clinical and internship curriculum and mentor students on clinical and internship rotations.

  5. Supervise EMS students, in the clinical learning environment.

  6. Participate in assessment of course learning outcomes. May include instructional assignment involving distance education.

  7. Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.

  8. Possible evening, weekend and off-campus assignments.

  9. Conduct student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.

  10. Adhere to all due dates, including the online submission of grades.

  11. Possible evening, weekend and off-campus assignments. Conduct student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. (a) Master's in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS, AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; AND Current ACLS Instructor certification; current PHTLS Instructor certification (or equivalent), current PALS instructor certification (or equivalent), and Hazardous Materials Awareness certification (or equivalent).


OR

(b) Bachelor's in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS, AND 3 years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least 1 of the 3 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience, AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; AND Current ACLS Instructor certification; current PHTLS Instructor certification (or equivalent), current PALS Instructor certification (or equivalent), and Hazardous Materials Awareness certification (or equivalent).

OR

(c) Certification as a Paramedic; AND a Baccalaureate degree in any field, AND 5 years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least 2 of the 5 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience, AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; AND Current ACLS Instructor certification; current PHTLS Instructor certification (or equivalent), current PALS Instructor certification (or equivalent), and Hazardous Materials Awareness certification (or equivalent).

OR

(d) Associate Degree in MICT, AND 10 years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least 3 of the 10 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience, AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; AND Current ACLS Instructor certification; current PHTLS Instructor certification (or equivalent), current PALS Instructor certification (or equivalent), and Hazardous Materials Awareness certification (or equivalent).


OR

(e) Medical Doctor AND current Hawai'i license as an M.D.; current ACLS instructor certification; board eligible, or board certified in emergency medicine.
