Job Description:
This position will provide communication services for the office of the Secretary of State by coordinating and executing communications, projects, and activities. The ideal candidate is a versatile self-starter who demonstrates excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and has knowledge of trends in the social and digital media industry. More specifically, a strong candidate will have demonstrated experience in executing and evaluating strategy to measurably impact audience and engagement goals. Hours: M-F, 8 am-5 pm; potential evening and weekend hours
This position will develop, compose, edit, translate, and deliver consistent messaging and effective communications to external and internal audiences through a variety of different platforms.Some examples of work include:
Research and draft media releases
Research and draft speeches
Assist with content preparation for media interviews and press conferences
Research and draft various publications such as brochures, forms, newsletters, and booklets
Plan and coordinate media interviews and presentations of public information to interested citizen groups
Monitor and post on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter
Assist with administration of the Secretary of State website, edit and draft content for the website
Research, draft and design trade mission documents
Research, write scripts for, and produce, Secretary of State podcasts
Assist with responses to records requests as needed
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or related field and at least one year of experience in coordinating, planning, and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media and social media communication activities and/or public information programs. Required experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe software
Strong knowledge of a variety of writing styles, specifically the Associated Press (AP) style
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proofing
Skill in critical thinking and analysis
Able to think strategically and creatively
Prioritize and meet deadlines
Balance multiple tasks
Manage sensitive and confidential information
Work with accuracy and attention to detail
