24 hours per week, rotating every 3rd weekend
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Chemistry Manager and section supervisor, performs a wide variety of manual and automated laboratory procedures utilizing independent judgment and maintaining responsibility for assigned duties. Must be familiar with chemistry, urinalysis, and urine microscopy. Must be computer literate and have a basic understanding of computer interfaces. Must also be familiar with specimen processing protocols for both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs qualitative and quantitative tests using various lab instruments and/or manual methods on blood, urine, CSF, and body fluids following standard operating procedures.
Responsible for the accurate testing, interpretation and reporting of test results.
Prepares samples and reagents for testing according to procedure.
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and be able to correct the problem or immediately notify technical service and/or Lead Technologist, Supervisor or Manager.
Performs and documents equipment maintenance, calibration, quality control, and other trouble shooting procedures.
Complies with all established standards and practices pertaining to test performance, including, but not limited to, laboratory procedures, hospital procedures, CAP guidelines, JCAHO guidelines, and within the institution's policies regarding compliance.
Rotates every third weekend and holiday as assigned.
May participate in training of new employees/students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Windows.
Able to communicate and write in English for the communication and documentation of work duties.
Clinical internship as part of an Associate or Bachelor's degree program or one year post degree experience within a CLIA laboratory performing high complexity testing required
Bachelor's degree from a university or college in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Medical Technology (MT), or Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) or
Bachelor's degree in related science with experience defined above.
Certification eligible: ASCP or equivalent (NCA, AMT, HEW) required
MT, CLS, MLS (ASCP) or equivalent (NCA, AMT, HEW) preferred
