Overview of Opportunity Two Six Technologies is seeking a Lead Research Scientist to research, build and test trustworthy AI systems. We are seeking candidates with an interest in research as well as a commitment to developing solutions for the real world. Ideal candidates will have a strong statistical background as well as a passion for, and experience with, understanding the nuances of the hypotheses underlying a variety of statistical and AI models. Specifically, we are looking for candidates who can reason over how the system may fail if these hypotheses are violated.This role will involve collaborating with researchers and engineers to design experiments, analyze data, and develop statistical models to support proposals and ongoing projects for agencies such as the DoD, DTRA and DARPA. Responsibilities:
Data analysis and modeling:
Implement algorithms to enhance trustworthiness of AI systems
Analyze, verify and validate white and black box AI systems for vulnerabilities, bias, and other desired properties
Experience implementing a large number of different statistical and AI models
Proposal development:
Contribute to the development of technical proposals by providing statistical expertise and designing research methodologies.
Develop statistical analysis plans for proposed research.
Collaboration and Innovation:
Assist in writing research papers and conference talks on topics in trusted AI
Collaborate with partners and customers to understand, tailor, and deliver solutions that are appropriate for the use case
Work closely with researchers and engineers from diverse disciplines to ensure the appropriate application of statistical methods.
Communication:
Effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Present clear arguments for why a given approach is desired, and, more importantly, why a favored approach is inappropriate
Leadership:
Mentor teammates with backgrounds in other fields to deliver high quality, mathematically sound models.
Minimum Qualifications:
A foundational understanding of statistics, and demonstrated interest in careful model design and / or model validation.
A bachelor's or advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Quantitative Social Science, or related technical domain
Familiarity with data science or ML engineering languages and tools, such as python (pytorch, tensorflow, pandas), R, Matlab, or similar
5-7 years (3-5 if PhD) of professional (or equivalent) experience in ML engineering or data analytics
Comfortable working as part of a small development team composed of researchers, engineers, and scientists
Active DoD Top Secret clearance
Nice to haves:
Previous research experience
A demonstrated interest in some aspect of trusted AI. E.g. privacy, explainability, bias, exploitability, etc.
Ability to read academic papers
