The Centralized Underwriting Manager is responsible for overseeing the Centralized Underwriting department, managing the Centralized Underwriters, developing and implementing underwriting policies and procedures, and protecting the assets of the credit union through sound lending and analytical practices. The incumbent will ensure the effective evaluation of financial risks associated with loan and credit applications ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible for protecting the assets of the credit union by ensuring the highest quality of underwriting in the Centralized Underwriting department.
Responsible for supervising, managing and coaching of the Centralized Underwriting team.
Effectively lead daily operations of the department including applications in Meridian Link, queues, underwriting of applications and communicating decisions to business partners.
Responsible for reviewing, counseling, and assisting in decisioning loans within the Centralized Underwriting Guidelines.
Responsible for supporting all credit union departments in their promotional activities by providing underwriting services of the department.
Responsible for management of team to achieve strategic goals of the department and the credit union.
Responsible for approving employee loans per the credit union's loan policy.
Assist VP of Consumer Lending and other executives with development and maintenance of policies and procedures to achieve strategic goals.
Accountable for communicating and re-enforcing corporate and department strategies, policies, goals, to the Centralized Underwriting department and relating operational concerns, and successes to VP of Consumer Lending and Senior Management.
Assume additional responsibilities as necessary for the continued growth and advancement of the credit union.
Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage complex and high stakes underwriting decisions
Ability to analyze and comprehend detailed and complex loan applications
Ability to analyze and evaluate consumer loan credit reports
Ability to perform basic math calculations such as LTV, debt ratio and income calculations
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Excellent organizational skills
Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and other loan origination systems used for consumer lending.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience is required.
5+ years' lending experience at a credit union, bank, or financial institution
3+ years management experience
Variability of shifts may include weekdays, evening and Saturday hours.
Hybrid position with expectation to work in office a minimum of 2-3 days per week.
