Overview

We are seeking a full-time Aviation Technical Writer II in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user's guides, installation and maintenance manuals.

Essential Functions


  • Research and write pilot's guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, and/or maintenance manuals

  • Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools

  • Communicate with the Design Engineers in areas that relate to the product specifications and product development

  • Enhance mechanical drawings and screen captures as needed

  • Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process

  • Edit copy written by other Technical Writers for content organization, style, voice, audience and consistency of format

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics

  • Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures

  • Demonstrated proficiency using desktop publishing tools relevant to Garmin's business needs for this role

  • Basic understanding of content management systems

  • Detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical writing within a software or electronics environment relevant to this position

  • Experience writing for user interfaces such as avionics is a plus

  • Proficiency in effectively using the Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop

  • Experience with FrameMaker, CorelDRAW and Visio is a plus

  • A passion for aviation and/or a Private Pilot's license is a plus
