We are seeking a full-time Aviation Technical Writer II in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user's guides, installation and maintenance manuals.
Essential Functions
Research and write pilot's guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, and/or maintenance manuals
Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools
Communicate with the Design Engineers in areas that relate to the product specifications and product development
Enhance mechanical drawings and screen captures as needed
Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process
Edit copy written by other Technical Writers for content organization, style, voice, audience and consistency of format
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics
Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures
Demonstrated proficiency using desktop publishing tools relevant to Garmin's business needs for this role
Basic understanding of content management systems
Detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Technical writing within a software or electronics environment relevant to this position
Experience writing for user interfaces such as avionics is a plus
Proficiency in effectively using the Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
Experience with FrameMaker, CorelDRAW and Visio is a plus
A passion for aviation and/or a Private Pilot's license is a plus
