Position Overview
The Controller plays a critical role as a business partner to the General Manager, providing leadership, strategic insight, and fostering talent development within the organization. This position oversees financial operations across multiple lines of business, including aggregate quarries, asphalt plants, and road construction, ensuring robust financial performance, operational efficiency, and adherence to company policies.
Key Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Financial Oversight and Reporting
Manage month-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, inventory adjustments, and P&L reviews, ensuring alignment with budget and investigating variances Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP and ensure the accurate reconciliation of all balance sheet account Lead the completion of annual and semi-annual financial reports, ensuring timely and accurate submission
Budgeting and Forecast
Develop and manage the company's annual budget, collaborating with department heads to ensure to ensure alignment with strategic objectives
Provide regular financial updates and forecasts to senior management, advising on business performance and emerging risks and opportunities
Internal Controls and Compliance
Enforce adequate controls to safeguard company assets, minimizing risks and ensuring compliance with all SOX controls and OMG and Shelly accounting policies and procedures
Manage responses to internal and external audit requests, ensuring all financial practices adhere to regulatory and company standards
Team Leadership and Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment Support operations managers by providing financial analysis and strategic insights to optimize decision-making across business lines
Strategic Analysis and Process Improvement
Utilize advanced financial analysis tools (Excel, Hyperion/Essbase) to support key business decisions, identify opportunities for process improvements, and implement best practices
Collaborate with leadership to drive synergies across the business and challenge existing processes to improve overall performance

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Direct and manage accounting staff, ensuring work is properly planned, assigned, and executed in alignment with company objectives. Provide coaching and professional development to direct reports, guiding them in technical and leadership growth.
Hold team members accountable for performance, offering constructive feedback, rewards, and corrective actions as needed
Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA/CPA a plus
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in finance and accounting, with a strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and control processes
Management experience preferred
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and familiarity with Hyperion experienced is preferred
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels
