The Department of Kinesiology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Public Health. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching experience in any area of Public Health, with a preference for candidates with expertise in Social and Behavioral Sciences. The successful applicant will possess the skills to teach a range of courses in Public Health including introduction to public health and introduction to global health, as well as upper-level courses related to social, behavioral, policy, and/or environmental impacts on health. We seek a candidate who can work collaboratively with current public health faculty and can contribute to or expand the current research and teaching expertise of the department. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.
Teaching expectation is two courses per semester. Faculty course assignments rotate within the department, and faculty may develop new courses that meet emerging curricular needs and student interest, as teaching responsibilities allow. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in Public Health and other lecture and seminar-style courses and contribute to the university's interdisciplinary minor in Public Health. Successful applicants will further have evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or related terminal degree public health or a closely related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).
Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research. A Research portfolio that includes opportunities for students to gain experience (e.g. through research experiences or internships) in public health issues relevant to and based in the United States is preferred.
