Job Description:





POSITION: Full-Time Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning (Assistant Director): Essex County Sheriff's Department; Middleton House of Corrections (20 Manning Ave, Middleton, MA) position includes travel within the Essex County Sheriff's Office Continuum; 37.5 hours per week; Non-Unit Professional Position





SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning will play a pivotal role in NECC education programs within ECSD correctional facilities. They will provide leadership and support in the development, implementation, and assessment of teaching and learning. They will oversee curriculum development, ensure instructional quality, oversee assessment and supervise faculty while promoting equity-minded practices in the delivery of high-quality educational services to meet the diverse needs of students.





RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Collaborate with the Education Director to design, develop, and implement comprehensive educational programs tailored to the unique needs of incarcerated individuals.

  • Lead the design and revision of educational curriculum ensuring alignment with content standards, best practices, educational requirements, correctional facility goals and that it meets the diverse needs of incarcerated learners.

  • Oversee the development of curriculum materials, including lesson plans, the selection of textbooks, software, and other instructional materials

  • Supervise teaching staff, ensuring effective delivery of curriculum through instructional planning, materials development, instructional delivery and classroom management

  • Promote instructional excellence and equity-minded practices.

  • Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to teaching staff to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes and program effectiveness, utilizing data to inform instructional improvements.

  • Manage educational resources efficiently, including instructional materials, technology, and space, to support effective teaching and learning.

  • Oversee testing at all ECSD facilities, e.g., TABE, TABE CLAS-E, CASAS, etc.

  • Identify areas for improvement in assessment practices and implement appropriate strategies for enhancement.

  • Analyze assessment results to inform programming, instructional delivery, support services, and readiness for HiSET testing or college courses.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to educational outcomes and program effectiveness, using findings to inform program enhancements and strategic planning.

  • Collaborate with advising and support staff to identify and address the educational needs of individual students, including those with learning disabilities or special needs.

  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements and reporting standards, maintaining accurate records and documentation of educational activities and outcomes, and prepare reports related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment activities.

  • Travel to all ECSD and NECC campuses as required to support teaching and learning.






Requirements:





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:





  • Master's degree in Education or related field

  • Minimum of three years of experience in education, with at least two years of experience in curriculum development, instructional supervision, or assessment

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate faculty and staff

  • Knowledge of adult learning and adult development theories, curriculum design, assessment principles, and equity-minded practices

  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including those with special needs or language barriers

  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in correctional education

  • Proficiency in data analysis and technology integration for educational purposes

  • Commitment to promoting equity, social justice, and the rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations





PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:





  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population





BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.






Additional Information:





SALARY: Anticipated starting salary range is $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits.
