JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understands basic aseptic technique principles and maintains a sterile field when opening sterile supplies.
Assists in transportation of patients to and from the Surgical Services Departments.
Demonstrates flexibility and responsibility in accepting work assignments. Responds positively to changing circumstances.
Care of Scrub Areas and Clean Utility Rooms:
Replenishes and neatly arranges scrub brushes, hoods, caps, masks, and booties. Maintains cleanliness of shelves, work counters and utility carts.
Maintains refrigerators:
Maintains solutions and warmer cabinets:
Assists scrub person and circulator with room turnover. Cleans the operating room after each procedure. Assists scrub and circulator with gathering and set up of supplies and equipment.
Transports supplies & specimens to the operating rooms, central supply, Laboratory, Pathology, & Medical Imaging departments as required.
Distributes processed instrument sets, equipment and supplies in appropriate work and storage area. Keeps storage areas clean and in proper order; cleans shelves weekly and as often as necessary. Maintains stock in operating room supply carts as needed. Recognizes and reports problems related to kits, equipment, or supplies. Contributes to cleanliness and order of the unit. Facilitates efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities
Ensures patient comfort and safety measures are maintained.
Restocks the Surgery Workroom as supplies are returned from operating rooms.
Assists in daily maintenance of the department, in completing work assignments, restocking, pulling cases for the next day and maintaining equipment in good working order. Utilizes non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner.
Orients and trains others as needed.
Follows all appropriate procedures to decontaminate and disinfect equipment and instruments. Assists sterile processing with assigned duties as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school graduate or equivalent. Medical background preferred. BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers certification required. On-the-job training in basic aseptic principles and operating specialty equipment during the initial three (3) months.
