Job Summary

The EHS Manager provides leadership and support to the development and implementation of specific regulatory-driven programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with site supervisory personnel to identify and remedy unsafe working conditions.
  • Comply with federal, state, local and company safety regulation requirements.
  • Coach the site team and employees on how to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Promote and support Nissin’s Behavioral Based Safety program and philosophy.
  • Collaborate with the frontline teams and management to develop methods and practices that will eliminate exposure.
  • Conduct regular walkthrough inspections and assessments of the site.
  • Engage with employees to ensure safe work practices are implemented and followed.
  • Investigate all incidents and safety exposures with management down to the root cause.
  • Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walkthrough tours.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed according to corporate and outside safety processes and procedures.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of employees in the area of Office safety, emergency response and evacuation, First Aid/CPR/AED certification and other related OSHA requirements.
  • Leads the investigation of accidents, incidents, industrial injuries or illness and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for the organization use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance claims or proceedings.
  • Serves as primary liaison between applicable regulatory and government agencies; Oversees health & safety, environmental, and DOT audits of facilities and recommends preventative measures.
  • Administer Workers Compensation program and compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains and updates safety files, records, all written programs and documents.
  • Leads and facilitates Safety Committees with managers and employees to provide training, identify issues, communicate and promote safety in the workplace.
  • Communicate and celebrate successes and foster company-wide commitment to safety and continuous environmental improvement; Educate EHS best practices, prevention and how to work around/with hazardous substances.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education/Experience

BS degree in a technical or safety related field (preferably an BS in Occupational Safety) or equivalent; and 8-10 years related experience in a related industry, including consumer packaged goods, distribution/transportation, manufacturing or grocery industry with proven results (knowledge of California workers compensation laws and processes preferred) and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience overseeing direct reports preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Knowledge:

Prior experience managing safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing

environment (preferably food manufacturing environment) with a detailed understanding of Federal, State and local Safety regulations and an understanding of industry best practices in safety engagement and enhancement. General understanding of workers compensation administration and understanding of environmental regulations pertaining to manufacturing plants including a basic understanding of various types of environmental measuring devices. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of organization

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Occupational Hygiene Safety Technician (OHST) preferred.
