The IU African Studies Program is recognized as one of the leading centers for the interdisciplinary study of Africa. A Title VI National Resource Center, our diverse research, teaching, and outreach activities promote greater understanding and appreciation of the continent and its global diaspora.



Job Summary





  • Performs administrative and department manager duties for the unit.

  • Assists the Director with managing accounts and budgets.

  • Manages personnel records and assists with scheduling of African Studies Courses.

  • Oversees graduate program affairs and records.

  • Assists the Associate Director with grant application preparations, specifically financial components.

  • Serves as a resource person for prospective and current students, faculty and staff.

  • Maintains and updates student files, records and databases.

  • Manages the units main email account.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

SKILLS



Required



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of individuals

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner

  • Maintains confidentiality

  • Operating knowledge of standard office equipment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office Suite including Word, Outlook, Access and Excel


Preferred



  • Experience with IU program and processes

This is a part-time non-benefit eligible position working.

$20.00 per hour.
