Responsibilities

This role is a traveling senior level field position that includes mentoring new employees, training new and existing employees in the field. The scope of work includes utility line locating, utility stand by, site visits, field audits, hand excavation, tracer wire repair, etc. The travel team will consist of highly experienced employees that can provide leadership, safety, and proven success in the Damage Prevention Industry. This position includes Company truck, GSA Per Diem Rates when traveling, and other required equipment necessary to perform work.

  • Safely operate company assigned equipment such as commercial motor vehicles, instruments, and other related tools and technical equipment as directed by supervisor
  • Exhibit professional interaction with client representatives, land owners, and/or the public
  • Follow directions from supervisor as well as other members of staff and management team in order to efficiently complete tasks
  • Read and prepare plans, at a high level, relating to the job at hand
  • Locating all types of utilities in rural and urban environments using multiple methods
  • Monitor excavations near high profile/critical infrastructure
  • Perform Audits to ensure accuracy of locates and prints
  • Obtains and maintains all required safety and operator qualification certifications
  • Manage and train new hires and or existing employees on Damage Prevention program services offered
  • Acts as “lead” while working with team members on complex program situations that may arise
  • Coordinates with clients, utility owners, property owners, etc. in the field or via phone
  • Coordinates with providers of traffic control and other 3rd party services in the field
  • Advanced comprehension and interpretation of planimetric and design plans, utility records, etc


Qualifications



  • Relevant field experience required
  • High school diploma or GED certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Advanced knowledge of identifying and using various types of field equipment required
  • Demonstrates strong and collaborative work ethic
  • Strong and effective communication within multiple levels of an organization is required
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time – Typical project schedule is 3 weeks on and 1 week off
  • Per Diem paid at GSA rate
  • Company truck provided
  • 5+ years or more of utility locating experience (will accept less years of experience based on prior roles)
  • Experience working as a “lead” on Damage Prevention Programs
  • Complete understanding of State 811 Dig Laws
  • Some Survey experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues, public, contractors, customers, and homeowners
  • Advanced observational skills and deductive reasoning to identify, locate, and mark utilities within a requested job scope
  • Troubleshooting skills and be willing and able to learn new procedures and technologies
  • Ability to plan and organize daily work schedule
  • Ability to proficiently interpret all utility plats
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately coach and mentor field technicians
  • Critical thinking skills to understand problems, analyze facts and anticipate results to make decisions based on available information and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment. (shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and ped keys etc.)
  • Ability and want to Promote Strong Safety Culture
  • Proficient in computer-based technology and ability to learn new systems & software related to the role
