Location: Pocomoke Farm, Pocomoke, MD
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, including holidays
Hours: 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.. Typically this position generally averages 40 hours a week.
Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for controlling rodent, insect, bird and other pest populations that pose a Biosecurity risk to the farm.
Must have Valid Driver's License, 1 year verifiable Driving experience with clean safety record
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sets up scheduled swabs (25%)
The application of chemical solutions and placing rodent and other baits in and around buildings to control rodent, insect, bird and other pest populations; reads instructions of, computes ratios of, and records amount of pesticides used (10%)
Installs mechanical barriers and sets traps to deter or exterminate rodents, insects, birds, and other pests in and around the poultry houses, surrounding buildings, and surrounding areas (10%)
Keeps vegetation on the farm cut or other wise controlled in accordance with the R&D Farm Biosecurity Standards (10%)
May operate a backpack fogger and/or tractor (10%)
Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: washing/disinfection external vehicles onto farm; escorting contractors; help with vaccination as needed (10%)
Performs simple math [addition, subtraction, multiplication and division] as part of recording information according to instructions and Cobb standards (15%)
Rountinely pickup trash and mortality from designated areas thoughout the day(10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements:
The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds to move items such as rat bait, bags of salt, boric acid, sprayer, etc.; tools, such as pallet jack, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 2000 pounds such as skids of supplies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Tools and Equipment: Back pack fogger, tractor
Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.
Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety glasses, safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required when handling chemicals; ear plugs and ear muffs will be used as needed or required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
Chemicals Commonly Used:Disinfectants such as Synergize, My-T-Kleen Barnwash, Lysol, Formaldehyde, Pesticide, etc. Phenolic based disinfectants.
Safety: Team Member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respitory Protection, Lock out Tag out, and Personal Protective equipment. Team Member is expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety related risks.
