  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Experience in event planning, coordinating, and program management.

  • Ability to coordinate a variety of work activities and work as part of a team.

  • Availability to seasonally work evenings and weekends.

  • Strong written, interpersonal, and inclusive communication.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field.

  • Demonstrated involvement in a related professional association (AHEPPP, NODA, etc.)

  • Experience with student support and retention initiatives.

  • Experience supporting orientation, transition, or retention programs in a large university setting.

  • Experience supervising student staff.


Job Description:

The Coordinator of New Student Orientation supports initiatives which welcome, transition, and effectively support new students attending Texas State University. The coordinator will support aspects of vision, program and service delivery, quality control, risk management, constituent engagement, resource development, student staff development, and fiscal management which align with and contribute to division and university vision, mission, and goals for enrollment and student success. Collectively, these efforts will contribute to building, supporting, and centering new student orientation, transition, and retention experiences as an important factor in creating campus culture, fostering sense of belonging, student persistence, and academic success and well-being.


Job Duties:

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (40%)


  • Coordinates vital logistical planning to support an educational and engaging experience for 9,000 new students through New Student Orientation, including facility reservations, catering, and other resource needs.

  • Organizes the delivery of presentation programs, design of late-night programming, and check-in processes for New Student Orientation participants.

  • Oversees risk management processes associated with New Student Orientation in coordination with campus stakeholders

  • Assists with the development and implementation of all department-wide programs including Bobcat Welcome Week, Family Weekend and other new orientation, transition and retention initiatives.




CONSTITUENT ENGAGEMENT (40%)

  • Coordinates recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of 30+ student staff members

  • Liaises effectively with members of the New Student Orientation Advisory Committee and campus partners to provide daily management and logistical support for New Student Orientation

  • Provides positive customer service to all New Student Orientation participants



FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (15%)

  • Executes financial decisions in alignment with university, division, and departmental protocols



OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5%)

  • Coordinates special projects or other duties as directed by Director of New Student and Family Experiences or their designee.
