Reporting to the Director of the Center for Student Wellness, the Nurse Manager plans, organizes and implements services and policies for Student Health Services; coordinates and supervises day-to-day activities associated with the delivery of health services; and provides direct patient care and health education aimed at promoting student wellness and decreasing disease.
Job Summary:
Medical Services/Program Management
Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients with acute health problems, with an emphasis on wellness and prevention; establishes medical diagnoses, orders and evaluates diagnostic studies, and performs/monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or manages follow-up plans; consults with offsite collaborating physician/Medical Director to provide high-quality primary care; and prescribes and regulates medications per protocols.
Adheres to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and South Carolina Board of Nursing and Department of Public Health standards.
Serves as campus resource on current health issues and provides in-service training for Health Services staff.
Maintains and enhances current level of knowledge relative to professional practices and acquires continuing education credits as required to maintain licensure.
Meets at least annually with the collaborating physician.
Serves as director of the onsite lab.
Oversees use of the department's electronic health records.
Supervisory
Hires and orients new nursing and medical office personnel.
Evaluates work performance and prepares appraisals for direct reports according to performance management policies/timelines.
Provides training, coaching and corrective action as needed.
Schedules and supervises nurses and medical office personnel and their delegated activities; provides opportunities for continuing education; and guides employees in maintaining a high standard of student healthcare.
Conducts staff meetings.
Administrative
Assists in formulating and implementing department policies and programs.
Oversees functioning of Health Services programs and partnerships with community providers.
Maintains a log of patient complaints and responses/follow-up.
Strategically manages allocated direct operating budget.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in nursing or related healthcare field.
At least five years of nursing experience.
Two years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
Current FNP-BC certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Current APRN license in good standing with the South Carolina State Board of Nursing.
Current BLS/AED for healthcare providers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a college health (preferred) or urgent care facility.
Behavioral health medication management competency.
Psychiatric medication management certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute medical conditions.
Effective organizational skills.
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
Ability to develop and implement plans and activities for the department and provide leadership and clinical supervision, including performance evaluations, for nursing and medical office staff.

Travel/Overtime Requirements:
Infrequent evening program requests may occur.
License/Certification:
Current FNP-BC certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center and current APRN licensure in good standing by SC State Board of Nursing.
