Purpose of Position

The Department of Population Health has an opening for a Faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Assistant Professor will work in close collaboration with the Public Health Program Director, Assistant Director, and other faculty and staff members to advance the Public Health Program. The Assistant Professor fills an essential position in the Public Health Program, supporting and providing excellence in graduate public health education.


Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching and Advising:



  • Serve as primary instructor for the MPH Core Course- PH 531: Biostatistics-this course introduces the selection, use and interpretation of basic statistical tests and concepts that may be used in addressing, analyzing, and solving problems in public health and health care research.

  • Develop new coursework in Population Health Research & Analytics based on areas of expertise and program needs.

  • Mentor students and serve as an advisor.


Research:



  • Collaborate with public health faculty on developing externally funded projects based on professional public health expertise.

  • Work with graduate students and serve as an advisor.


Service:



  • Service includes contribution to the institution/school/department (e.g., committees), to the profession (e.g., professional organizations), and to the community (e.g., boards, etc.).


Required Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire and mentor students.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff and students.

  • Ability and willingness to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues.

  • Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery.


Minimum Requirements

  • Terminal degree (e.g., Ph. D.) in a public health discipline, medicine, clinical science, epidemiology or related field.

  • Demonstrated track record of teaching public health courses or demonstrated potential to successfully teach Master of Public Health (MPH) courses.

  • Demonstrated track record of research grant acquisition and management or demonstrates potential to successfully apply for funding.

  • Experience and proficiency in distance technologies for communications (webinars, online modules, televideo, etc.)

  • Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching at the graduate level.

  • Expertise in UND MPH specializations, including Biostatistics, interpretation of basic statistical tests and concepts that may be used in addressing, analyzing and solving problems in public health and health care.

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience working with tribal, rural, diverse, or other underserved populations.
