Description: Provides leadership to supervise and direct gas and electric field personnel in the operation of the distribution/transmission systems and customer response system over an assigned geographic area. Focus is on safe and effective use of all resources to protect the public, achieve customer satisfaction and meet the needs and demands of the home geographic area. Provides complex technical skills and expertise to ensure safe, effective and reliable energy delivery to customers. Provides resources to assist other MidAmerican Energy Company geographic areas as required by changing workload. Provides resources and technical assistance to other companies and regions of the country during utility disaster emergencies. Affects achievement of company goals. Implements cost saving and value-enhancing opportunities, including implementation of savings available through administration of the collective bargaining agreement.
Direct Reports Supervises and directs an average of 15 direct reports from multiple union and non-union disciplines, including administrative and technical personnel in operation, maintenance, construction and management of physical utility systems and information systems. May also supervise and direct contractor forces.
Responsibilities: Supervise, direct and coordinate electric and natural gas operations-related functions of construction, operation and maintenance and customer service activities, including administering the collective bargaining agreement.
Readily assume a high-priority responsibility for public safety while ensuring a safe work environment for employees. Understand, administer and enforce rules and codes of governing regulatory and safety agencies, including occupational safety and health administration, OPS192, state utility regulatory boards, national fuel gas code and city, county and municipality utility, construction and building codes. May advise governing agencies on proposed rules. Includes managing multi-functional areas after hours. (30%)
Supervise and direct personnel and provide complex technical skills to achieve MidAmerican Energy Company's mission and achieve area-specific and corporate goals. Primary responsibility for optimization of resources, workforce safety and health, system reliability and regulatory and environmental compliance includes: emergency and spill response, cleanup and environmental compliance reporting; environmental air monitoring; facility waste coordinator inspections and compliance reporting; compliance with drug testing policy and annual medical exam-policy for CDLs, use of respirators and audiograms; employee injury and property damage risk management investigation, cause analysis, recovery of assets, damage payment authorization and associated personnel development. Handle escalated, unusual or difficult inquiries/situations through direct personal action. (30%)
Deliver ongoing complex technical training to internal and external groups. Includes the compliance requirement to provide emergency response training on gas and electric emergencies to fire departments and law enforcement agencies; safety training on job- related subjects; skills training on job-related subjects; compliance training and certification on job-related subjects; operator qualification training and certification on job-related subjects; apprentice training on certain subjects. May assist in training engineering and customer service department personnel on construction, maintenance and field services requirements for successful operation of gas and electric facilities, response to customer requests and response to emergencies. (20%)
Lead and provide complex technical expertise to tactical and technical committees to improve delivery services operations, the company and the utility industry. Includes membership on city and county boards of mechanical and electrical review, gas and electric professional associations and membership on some of the following committees: safety, apprenticeship, vehicle standards, gas and electric standards, customer service committees, ad-hoc advisory committees and software user-group committees. (10%)
Lead and direct personnel in the effective implementation of the flexibility opportunities in the bargaining unit contracts. Encourage and support the development of direct reports to help provide a future pool of qualified applicants for supervisors and advanced technical positions. (10%)
Perform activities necessary for the effective supervision of local employees, including employee safety, development and training of employees including performance evaluations, salary administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed. Direct the operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds and assist in fleet and storeroom operations. (0-5%)

Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, technical engineering or related field or equivalent experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Six years of related experience, including one year in a senior technical/leadership role. Good oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
Effective leadership abilities and interpersonal skills to support the team concept. Influencing skills to negotiate and persuade, sell and lead opinion.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills and ability to demonstrate these skills while under pressure.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
Must have a valid driver's license.
