Introduction to role:



Join our industry-leading BioPharmaceuticals team, where our rich and diverse pipeline speaks for itself. As a Sr. Medical Director, you will be a member of the Core Medical Team (CMT), a board-certified physician with significant experience in the cardiovascular, renal and metabolic (CVRM) disease area. You will be accountable for the development and execution of the early portfolio strategy and prioritization. This role requires proactive engagement with internal and external leaders, a strong commercial acumen, and a network of CVRM trialists in general and in the US more specifically.



Accountabilities:



In this role, you will develop early disease area strategies, provide medical input into brand strategy, build external collaborations, play an integral role in national medical advisory boards and training for external medical/scientific speakers. You will also lead the strategy and development of clinical studies to obtain promotional claims, provide medical review for externally sponsored Research (ESR) proposals, maintain key links into global brand clinical activities, supply medical input into the safety profile of the product, act as medical spokesperson for US Brands as needed, and ensure compliance with all AZ corporate policies.



Essential Skills/Experience:



- Graduate of a recognized medical school and recipient of an MD/DO degree


- Background in academic medicine, clinical research, and familiarity with biostatistics and epidemiology


- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organization skills


- Ability to travel nationally and internationally. Travel will be ~30% (tbd) of time.



Desirable Skills/Experience:



- Board certification/eligibility preferred in Endocrinology or related relevant specialty.


- Strong business acumen, including working knowledge of changing U.S. payer and provider landscape.


- Proven ability to interact productively with both commercial, medical and research colleagues.


- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross functional teams.


- Familiarity with OPDP, PhRMA code, and key regulations in the pharmaceutical industry


- Highest level of ethics and integrity


- Medical Directors preferred to have at least 3 years of pharmaceutical industry or other related areas of experience including Academic Institution


- Experience developing and/or launching a new pharmaceutical product/biologic product in the ideal candidate.


- Broad cross-functional pharmaceutical and cross-functional general management experience


- Minimum 5 years of experience in a strategy-setting role within R&D/Medical Affairs


- Global experience within the pharmaceutical industry


- Working knowledge of FDA requirements
