Job Summary
Indiana University East invites applications for a part-time line cook to work approximately 27-32 hours per week in our fast-paced food service area, The Den. This position does include some evening hours and the occasional weekend.
Areas maintained will include the "Chef's Corner", "Grab and Go", Salad Bar, and Catering.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Works with the Food Service Director to maintain outstanding customer service.
Accurately and efficiently prepares and serving food daily.
Maintains high standards in food safety.
Follows all culinary standards set forth by the Director of Food Service along with Serve Safe guidelines.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
SKILLS
Required
Accurately and efficiently operate major kitchen equipment, including stoves, steamers, holding tanks, refrigeration systems, slicer and knives
Requires knowledge of food service operations including sanitation, hygiene, and food preparation standards while following standard recipes
Dependability, a strong work ethic, and good customer service skills are required
Exhibit a high level of professionalism in conduct, work ethic, and appearance
Operate all food preparation equipment in a safe manner
Communicate, understand and follow oral and written instructions
Work in team environment and perform work in a safe and efficient manner
Effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with customers and food service team
Perform other related work, as assigned
Ability to pass a criminal history background check
Dependable, have a strong work ethic, and have good time-management and customer service skills
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position oneself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position requires a criminal history background check.
