Role description:

Arcadis is excited to announce this opportunity for career development as a waste management compliance specialist. We are seeking a dependable Scientist, Geologist, Engineer, or related discipline to support waste management and regulatory compliance for a wide variety of client sectors including oil & gas, chemical manufacturing, wastewater, retail, pharmaceutical, distribution and transportation. The candidate will be a full-time employee providing waste management and compliance support for project teams performing environmental investigation, remediation, auditing, permitting and emergency response.


  • The ideal candidate will have familiarity working with numerous waste disposal facilities on profiling, coordinating transportation and disposal, and cost assessments. The successful candidate will have knowledge of state-specific regulatory requirements and the capability to interpret regulations and interact with regulatory agencies. The candidate should have client-facing consulting skills and be a good communicator and problem-solver. This professional should have excellent computer, writing, and people skills. The position will require agility and flexibility to adapt to internal and external client schedules and needs. Limited travel may be required (estimated at 10 - 20 %)

Role accountabilities:

  • Knowledgeable of Multiple Waste Streams (RCRA, TSCA, Haz Waste Listed/Characteristic, Universal, Non-Haz, Radioactive, PFAS, SWDA, etc.) and disposal options
  • Experience developing waste management, soil management, and in situ sampling and analysis plans
  • Understanding of waste sampling and analysis requirements for characterization, management, and off-site transportation and disposal of process, investigation and/or remediation wastes
  • Understanding of the Health and Safety concerns specific to waste management
  • Preparation of agency waste notifications, annual and biennial reports, state- specific report and maintenance of required records
  • Ability to perform waste determinations, including familiarity with listed waste and the contained-in and good-faith demonstration process
  • Supporting of project teams with shipping determinations and DOT compliance
  • Conducting site visits for data collection, weekly container inspections, waste compliance assessments and waste inventories
  • Ability to interpret regulations and develop options for complex waste management situations
  • Review and preparation of subcontracts, review of invoices and cost proposals, and coordination of subcontractor scheduling
  • Completing, tracking, updating, and renewing waste profiles and completing manifests for Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste shipments

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 5 years of experience performing duties described in this requisition

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10-years' experience performing duties described in this requisition
  • Master's Degree or greater in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related field
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Certification
  • Developing/preparing deliverables to regulatory agencies
  • DOT HAZMAT Training
  • RCRA Training
  • Operational Knowledge/Employment at a Waste Disposal Facility

The salary range for this position is $82,400 - $123,600

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
