A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Responsible for production support engineering concerning testing methods, procedures, and problems; device specification and yield problems; minor redesign of devices and masks; analysis of customer returns; supplier-related engineering changes and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints.

  • Assumes responsibility for device and internally produced or externally purchased components after transfer into high-volume production and is usually responsible for entire device manufacturing operations other than wafer fabrication.

  • May assist customers with device usage problems or customer testing of complex devices.

  • Project Management, including Microsoft Project Gantt charts, tracking financials of projects, updating key stakeholders, coordinating resources, and delivering results against project timelines and budgets.

  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations and address quality issues on the production floor.

  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Define and generate all required documentation supporting manufacturing protocols, reports, changes, and instructions. These include Engineering protocols, reports, process risk documents (PFMEA), manufacturing instructions, change orders, and statistical analysis.

  • Form and lead cross-functional teams to resolve high-profile production issues and document recommended corrective actions using the quality systems procedures. (NCMR & CAPA).

  • Develop and implement process improvements through Lean 6 Sigma methodology that improves cost, quality, delivery, and safety.

  • Design and develop equipment and fixtures to improve processes and support lean manufacturing through collaboration with external vendors or the internal equipment department.

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.

  • Inspect the performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigate and initiate corrective action for problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

  • Develop manufacturing processes that apply to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.

  • Ensure processes and procedures are compliant with regulations.

Required Knowledge and Experience:
Requires a Baccalaureate degree

Minimum 7 years of manufacturing engineer experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience.

Nice to Have


  • Mechanical, Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering Degree

  • Experience in manufacturing project management

  • Experience in medical device manufacturing

  • Working knowledge of SAP, BI

  • Working experience with supplier relations.

  • Understanding of technical documentation and procedures

  • Knowledge of drafting standards, fixtures, and tooling

  • Experience with capital project budgets including forecasting and quoting

  • Experience with equipment, facility, and process validations

  • Working knowledge and experience in Lean and Six-Sigma methodologies

  • Technical writing skills

  • Strong statistical skills using Minitab

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$120,000.00 - $180,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
