Overview

We are seeking a full-time Manager Quality in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating product/software quality activities and staff to ensure that product testing and customer objectives are accomplished within schedule and funding guidelines.

Essential Functions


  • Provide strategic leadership and organizational planning for a global quality organization

  • Review project status/reports, provide feedback/direction to the engineering staff as needed, and facilitate communication with top management and other departments

  • Continuously evaluate and provide feedback on Garmin's product development process to ensure appropriate participation and empowerment of the teams

  • Review staffing requirements based on product plans and direct recruiting efforts or assignment of resources based on approved plans

  • Work with Engineering management to establish budget framework required to support the product testing function based on staffing requirements and capital equipment required to support product and/or software testing activities

  • Provide leadership to Quality Team Leaders and make provisions for the training and evaluation of software quality staff

  • Drive continuous improvement of test processes including metrics

  • Participate in selection/deployment of product and/or software quality related tools and procedures

  • Ensure optimal communication with customers (internal and external as applicable)

  • Coordinate/define team activities based on the priorities and competencies of Team Leaders and associates

  • Mentor Quality Team Leaders responsible for product and/or software quality assurance activities

  • Encourage and demonstrate the Garmin culture throughout the organization

  • Directly supervise team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring along with planning, assigning and directing work along with writing/conducting annual evaluations

  • Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team including new Quality Team Leaders

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of product testing experience with documented success in managing business level projects and technical human resources, of which 3 years of Garmin team leader experience or 5 years of other relevant management experience

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Must possess experience and/or demonstrated capability in leading multiple software quality teams

  • Demonstrates a commitment to success and drive to achieve project/organizational goals

  • Must demonstrate a solid understanding of the complete software development lifecycle and software quality processes relevant to Garmin's business needs

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with cross-functional teams including Legal, Finance, Engineering, Sales and Marketing, and Operations

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Exceptional time management and impeccable business judgment and decision-making abilities

  • Strong passion for Garmin, including its mission, products and values

  • High level of initiative, energy and drive with a results-oriented track record and commitment to success

  • Must be positive, detail/quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Proven ability to operate with discretion and protect highly confidential information

  • Flexible and adaptable with an ability to envision strategic opportunities in a highly dynamic environment

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
