Job Description:

Role and Responsibilities Include

• Stands competent Meteorological (MET) Watch. Takes, evaluates, records, encodes and disseminates surface weather hourly and special observations.

• Monitors satellite and radar imagery

• Issues weather warnings, watches, and advisories.

• Provides DD-175-1,verbal over-the counter and telephone weather briefs.

• Develops and disseminates Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAF).

• A plain language airfield and range forecast is generated daily.

• May be required on occasion to take upper air observations and assist in range operations.

(Hourly pay begins at rate plus $ per hour for up to 40 hours per week Health & Welfare. Night differential is 10 percent and overtime pay is time and a half. )

Minimum Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to acquire a SECRET clearance.

• Prior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DOD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service, including two years' experience in observing, taking, recording and disseminating surface weather observations using Meteorological Aviation Routine Weather Report (METAR) code.

• Prior forecaster certification with the Department of Defense (DOD) or National Weather Service, including two years of experience in aviation forecasting and familiar with DD form 175-1.

• Must have completed a DOD formal training program for weather observing AND forecasting or equivalent National Weather Service program. Must provide proof of completion.

• Must have visual acuity correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contacts throughout the life of the contract.

Desired Qualifications & Experience

• Experience operating the Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS).

• Experience using the Navy's Flight Weather Briefer (FWB) program.

• Experience in upper air observations.

• Familiar with NAVMETOCCOM INST(s) 3140.14 (Flight Weather Briefing Manual) and 3143.1 (TAF code).

• Persons currently holding an active CAC ID or having a current or recent secret security clearance.

• Strong communication skills and proficient with computer systems/software to include MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to the weather elements on a regular basis and will be required to climb stairs. Will be required to work nights, occasional weekends and infrequent holidays.
