General Summary



Under moderate supervision, administers radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist according to established standards and practices. Patients served include Adult through Adult Geriatric.

Qualifications




  • Graduation from an AMA approved program in Radiation Therapy Technology or Radiologic Technology is required. An Associate of Science degree in Radiation Therapy Technology is preferred.

  • Registration as a Radiation Therapy Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) is required.

  • Licensure as a Radiation Therapy Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in the state of Maryland is required.

  • CPR certification is required.

  • Three years of clinical practice in Radiation Therapy is required.


Working Conditions



Works inside a clinical environment. Exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple demands. May be physically or verbally abused by patients. May be required to work on rotating shifts. May be required to work beyond normal tour of duty and participate in on-call rotation. Must practice established radiation safety principles; to include wearing and maintaining film badges in the prescribed manner, wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment, including but not limited to lead aprons, gloves, etc. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, and ionizing radiation (not to exceed the legal limits of occupational expose requiring the observance of standard (Universal) precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as low or no exposure risk and does not require the completion of an annual testing, but may require "just in time" testing if the need arises.



Physical Requirements



Frequent standing, waling, stooping, and bending. Reaching for and handling equipment and supplies including lead focus blocks weighing up to 25lbs (with assistance) 80% of the time. Lifting, pushing/pulling, and transferring patients 50% of the time on/off treatment tables via wheelchairs and/or stretchers. Manual dexterity for operating equipment and computer; visual acuity for viewing display monitors and reading patient charts. Acute hearing required to assimilate oral communication from patient, physician, other health care team members, and family.
