Abel Womack seeks an experienced, well-qualified individual with expert knowledge and understanding of material handling systems and warehouse automation to partner with our sales team to develop warehouse solutions and integrated systems for our clients. The successful candidate will ensure the success of Abel Womack's material handling systems integration projects by:
Applying knowledge of various material handling equipment, systems and disciplines including but not limited to storage systems, pick modules, robotics, conveyors, AS/RS, AGV's, etc. to resolve our customers' warehouse space challenges by integrating appropriate material handling equipment and systems
Using AutoCAD to create drawings
Partnering with account managers, end users, customers and Abel Womack Engineering to identify, qualify, budget and secure projects
Partners with account managers to help customers evaluate cost reductions and/or operations improvements and understand ROI.
Reviewing all design parameters used to develop system, including products to be handled, throughputs, safety requirements, etc. Reviews system layouts for accuracy and makes changes as required to correct problem areas
Conducting on-site verifications of existing conditions prior to the start of projects. Checks all local codes or customer requirements that may affect Abel Womack supplied equipment and ensures compliance
Post-sale, the Applications Engineer is typically responsible for coordinating the turnover to the project manager and assisting various aspects of projects to provide a smooth transition through the implementation stage.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with equipment suppliers to support development of designs, interfaces, firm pricing and delivery schedules.
Requirements
Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently but successfully integrate with local sales representatives and a remote engineering team
Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of material handling, warehousing, transportation or similar industry equipment required
Knowledge of automation, conveyor systems, racking, system integration, warehouse operations required.
Robotics knowledge helpful.
5+ years' experience as applications engineer, warehouse operations or maintenance decision maker or material handling sales engineer
Demonstrated ability to serve as consultant, expert partner to organizations seeking warehouse and material handling solutions
Ability to establish rapport with current and future customers to learn about and propose solutions to their material handling challenges
AS or BS in a technical field of study or equivalent experience
Ability to read blueprints and knowledge of electrical schematics a plus. Auto-CAD proficiency and experience required
Proficient use of Microsoft Office required. Use of Microsoft Projects a plus
Exceptional time management skills and ability to manage several projects at the same time required A process-oriented approach to work and demonstrated attention to detail, required
Must be able to communicate (written and oral), and perform in a professional manner at all times while at Abel Womack, customer facilities and during business travel
Must be able to work after normal working hours in the event of travel, time-sensitive issues or emergencies
Must be able to travel on occasion out of the area, stay overnight for potentially several days at a time.
Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights up to 65 feet occasionally, and comply with all relevant OSHA requirements (e.g. during project estimation, installation, implementation)
