Job Description:


Position Summary:




The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing various tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, and assisting with tax planning and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of tax laws, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.




Key Responsibilities:





  • Tax Return Preparation: Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.


  • Tax Research & Analysis: Stay current on federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations to identify tax-saving opportunities and ensure compliance.


  • Tax Planning: Assist in tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position and minimize tax liabilities.


  • Tax Compliance: Ensure the accurate and timely filing of all tax returns and related reports, including income tax, sales tax, property tax, and excise tax returns.


  • Financial Reporting: Assist with quarterly and annual tax provision calculations and the preparation of tax-related financial statements in accordance with accounting standards (e.g., ASC 740).


  • Audit Support: Provide support during tax audits, including gathering and reviewing documentation, responding to IRS or state tax authority inquiries, and working with external auditors.


  • Tax Credits & Incentives: Research and apply for available tax credits, incentives, and deductions to maximize tax savings for the organization.


  • Special Projects: Assist in tax-related special projects such as tax compliance reviews, due diligence for mergers/acquisitions, and implementing new tax processes or systems.


  • Communication: Collaborate with internal departments such as finance, legal, and HR to ensure alignment on tax-related matters.



Qualifications:





  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's in Taxation or a relevant advanced degree is a plus.


  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in tax accounting, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.


  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax.

    • Experience with tax compliance and reporting software (e.g., Thomson Reuters UltraTax, Wolters Kluwer CCH, or similar).

    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex tax issues.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other tax-related software.




  • Certifications (preferred but not required):

    • CPA or in-progress certification (e.g., Enrolled Agent, or Tax Specialist designation).

    • Experience with tax planning or international tax is a plus.
