The 340B Pharmacist is responsible for the facilitating and monitoring the 340B program. This position works closely with Pharmacy Teams, Information Services, Legislative Affairs to ensure compliance and optimization of the 340B program.
Essential Job Functions
• Provides assistance, direction, and supervision of support of support staff, including 340B analysts and/or technicians. This includes, hiring, training, performance review, payroll, coaching/counseling and/or disciplinary processes.
• Acts as a resource to 340B staff and responds to procedural questions and assists with problem resolution.
• Assists and supports management by providing leadership and direction to staff and coordinating the day-to-day operational activities. Serves as mentor and coach to staff as it relates to daily operational issues.
• Acts as a liaison for pharmacy staff to pharmacy leadership. To ensure supervision and availability to staff, regularly staffs in the area they are leading or specializing.
• Represents pharmacy leadership and makes appropriate recommendations in committees, meetings, and inter-disciplinary teams.
• Identifies and implements process improvement initiatives relating to patient care, services offered and financial viability.
• Investigates and responds to issues and/or complaints from staff and/or patients. Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.
• Actively manages inventory including daily medication orders, out of stock issues, substitutions, medication shortages and PAR levels. Analyze and make recommendations for inventory management.
• Understand and analyze departmental budget and monthly finances. Maintains competency in processing and trouble-shooting third-party adjudication and reconciliation
• Proficient in use of and able to trouble shoot issues related to all pharmacy software systems.
• Serves as a resource for pharmacy students, residents and technician students.
• Participates in process improvement and identifies ways to improve 340B program compliance and optimization.
• Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
• Oversees and/or conducts monthly audits of 340B eligible facilities to verify adherence to the Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA) guidance on the 340B program.
• Management of policies and procedures that guide 340B program HRSA compliance.
• Analyze utilization of the program and existing software to identify ways to compliantly use the 340B program to its fullest extent.
• Integrate information from the pharmacy charge master, facility billing, and patient registration processes into the 340B split billing computer system and incorporate that information into auditable and compliant processes.
• Registers new child sites and covered entities on OPA website and maintains accuracy of the OPA database
• Coordinates contract pharmacy implementations and reporting
• Oversees annual contract pharmacy audits
• Affiliate 340B program management
• Evaluates contract pharmacy arrangements for satisfactory performance and identify areas for improvement
• Coordination of legislation and advocacy for 340B program
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctorate in Pharmacy.
• Within 3 months of hire:
Completion of 340B University
• Within 2 years of hire:
Completion of 340B Advanced Certificate Program
Experience
• Prior outpatient pharmacy practice experience preferred
• Prior experience in 340B preferred
• Completion of 340B University preferred
• Completion of 340B Advanced Certificate Program preferred
Certifications and Licenses
• Current Montana Pharmacist license
• Maintain good standing with the Office of Inspector General (OIG)
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
