Scope of Position: A Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the medical office or hospital. This position will support physicians, providers, nurses and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, documentation, and communication with a focus on patient experience, quality, and efficiency.
Position Summary: The Medical Assistant will support the patient care treatment process by assisting the physicians, nurse practitioners and other clinical staff in the appropriate delivery of patient care services. The Medical Assistant may be expected to perform multiple advanced clinical support tasks without supervision.
Medical Assistants collect and prepare laboratory specimens, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments. This position will arrange examining-room instruments and equipment, maintain supplies and equipment, and keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean. The Medical Assistant verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit. This position prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma and successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred. Experience, either on-the-job or via educational program, in the advanced clinical support skills required by the clinical department. Medical Assistant certification is preferred with the approved certifications (i.e. CMA, NRCMA, RMA, CCMA and NCMA). BLS certification is required. Advanced clinical support skill certification desired (i.e. phlebotomy, EKG, etc.).
