Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will be within the Clinical Pathology section, which performs analysis on animal specimens including tests such as CBC, serum chemistries, fecal examinations, and urine analysis. Clinical Pathology handles specimens from predominantly food animal as well as companion animal species. This position will utilize both sophisticated scientific equipment as well as basic microscopy skills.
Utilizes validated laboratory techniques and processes to analyze patient specimens.
Operates sensitive scientific equipment during the analytical process.
Documents findings in BVC's Laboratory Information Management System.
Recognizes, documents, and provides input to correct substandard quality.
Assist in development, review and evaluation of processes as necessary.
Maintains customer confidentiality.
Strictly adheres to the Quality Management System and Laboratory Safety rules.
Cleans and disinfects work area including bench tops, testing equipment, and biosafety cabinets.
Participates in university and laboratory committees.
Performs quality reviews.

Minimum Education Requirements:
Two years of college credit.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
Two years of laboratory experience required. Related education may be exchanged year-for-year with experience requirement.
Alertness, memory for verbal or written directions and details, analytical ability and ability to make decisions and plan details of work.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Laboratory techniques, record keeping, and filing procedures; biology and chemistry helpful.
Familiar with collegiate level scientific processes.
Ability to interpret and verify tests results.
Knowledge of common veterinary/medical terminology.
Understanding of common veterinary tests, specimen collection/storage/test methods.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and general familiarity utilizing software programs.
Ability to adapt and address changing circumstances and personalities.
Pleasant, proactive personality, adept at handling demanding situations, and work in a team environment.
