The Department of Plant and SoilSciences in the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources atOklahoma State University invites applications for this tenure-track, 11-monthfaculty position on the main campus in Stillwater, OK in the area of environmentalsoil chemistry.
Position Descriptions
Assistant Professor - Environmental Soil Chemistry
Thisposition holds 75% Research and 25% Teaching responsibilities.
Thesuccessful candidate is expected to establish an externally funded, nationallyand internationally recognized research and teaching program in the area ofenvironmental soil chemistry. Interdisciplinary research is expected, andpossible research areas include soil contamination and remediation, emergingcontaminants, water quality, biosolids, byproducts from oil and gas production,other industrial by-products, land application of animal waste, biogeochemicalcycling, and transport of nutrients and contaminants with a focus on environmentalsustainability of managed and natural ecosystems.
Teaching responsibilitiesinclude an undergraduate course in environmental soil chemistry that iscross-listed with the interdisciplinary Environmental Sciences program. Thesuccessful applicant will be expected to develop and/or teach additionalundergraduate and graduate courses based on faculty expertise and departmentalpriorities as identified in the program curriculum map. Advising and mentoringof undergraduate and graduate students is expected.
This faculty member will be expected to work closely andcooperatively with other faculty in the department, as well as other scientistsin related fields including regional and multi-state collaboration. Thesuccessful candidate will explore and foster multidisciplinary collaborationsinternally and externally and engage with stakeholders and associatedorganizations. Success in pursuit of external funding for research activitiesis required. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive work environmentand collegiality among peers.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include: aPh.D. in Soil Science, Soil Chemistry, Biogeochemistry, EnvironmentalChemistry, or a closely related field with emphasis on environmental soil chemistry.Applicants must have excellent communication skills with the ability toeffectively communicate with scientific and non-scientific audiences bothorally and in writing. Applicants mustbe committed to working effectively and collaboratively with faculty in thedepartment and across the division. Applicants must have the ability to identify and aggressively pursueexternal funding and demonstrate the ability to publish research findings inpeer-reviewed journals. Applicants shouldbe dedicated with undergraduate and graduate education and committed to qualityinstruction.
Preferred qualifications include: previous experience in teaching and studentadvising, evidence of ability to secure external funding from competitivenational funding sources, and expertise in instrumentation and development ofanalytical techniques. Preference will be given to those withevidence of teaching excellence.
Employment Conditions
This position is an 11-month, tenure track facultyposition. This position will be filled by June 30, 2025 or as soon thereafteras an acceptable applicant is available. Salary is competitive and based onqualifications and experience. This position is eligible for benefits.
