Primary Job Responsibilities:


The Curatorial Assistant at the
Rollins Museum of Art
provides support to the Curator and Interim Director in areas related to collections and exhibitions, including conducting curatorial research, drafting copy for didactic materials, preparing outlines and PowerPoint presentations for new acquisitions, drafting descriptions for the museum's website, and assisting with the organization of exhibitions.



Primary Responsibilities:



  • Assists the curator with planning of upcoming exhibitions, managing deadlines, and keeping track of the production of materials.


  • Conducts art historical research of works in the museum's collection including scholarly sources, primary sources, artist interviews, biographies, contemporary reviews and criticism.


  • Prepares outlines and writeups for object files.


  • Conducts exhibition research, compiles information about exhibition history, provenance, historical context, and quotes by the artists.


  • Identifies and collects accurate and up to date information about artists, artworks, historical events, and other project related topics.


  • Assists with the development and implementation of exhibitions such as layout, copyediting, and communication with other members of the curatorial team.


  • Creates checklists of objects for potential exhibition projects.


  • Drafts copy for didactic materials, such as extended labels, introductory texts, artists' biographies.


  • Assists with the preparation of acquisition proposal forms for Collections Committee meetings, including but not limited to researching artists, specific objects, and the collection.


  • Assist with preparation of materials for meetings, lectures, publications, and presentations including text, and PowerPoint slides.


  • Responds to inquiries about works in the collection, receives artwork gift donations proposals and prepares briefs for the Curator's review.




Minimum Qualifications:





  • College degree in Art History required  (M.A. preferred).

  • At least one year of related experience is required.

  • Museum experience desirable.

  • Broad knowledge of art history and the ability research works from various periods.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Complete tasks on time and maintaining effective communication with the Curator and Interim Director.

  • Strong excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.

  • Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Sharepoint, and JStor.

  • Employment Dates:


    • 6 month assignment starting January 15, 2025.







  • Work Schedule: The Curatorial Assistant role is scheduled to work approximately 40 hours per week, and for a total of or fewer than 1,000 hours per year. The schedule is Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, and will depend on department needs with the ability to work flexible hours.





  • Compensation: Approximately $30.00 per hour. There are no benefits associated with this position.


Work Environment:


  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position.

  • Work may require some visual strain due to use of computer.
