Job Summary:

Provide strategic planning, operational oversight, organization, supervision and leadership of the School of Social Work (SSW) field education department. Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and the Academic Affairs team to develop and implement practical solutions to complex field problems including improving assessment data collection, revising processes for out of area field placements, responding to ethical concerns related to placement behavior and student behavior; Ensure field procedures align with accreditation standards; Assist with annual accreditation reporting; Assist the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in authoring relevant portions of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) seven (7) year self-study; Monitor and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Field Education team; Direct efforts to expand new field placement opportunities for students.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provide strategic planning for the field education office toward optimal service of students in accordance with the guidelines of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

  • Develop and implement strategic recruitment and development of field sites, training of field instructors and liaisons, and the assignment of students to appropriate placements in accordance with CSWE.

  • Supervise field education and support staff including planning and leading professional development initiatives to improve staff performance and field education operations.

  • Assist in the CSWE accreditation evaluation process to include designing effective evaluation tools and data collection processes, providing data interpretation, and creating formal reporting annually and in the seven-year self-study.

  • Actively monitor and evaluate all aspects of field placement operations and develop and implement interventions as needed to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Negotiate and maintain field education affiliation agreements with in-area and out-of-area placement sites.

  • Maintain relationships with agency leaders and Field Instructors through clear and frequent communication.

  • Review and mediate issues between field students and Field Instructors when Liaisons are unable to achieve resolution.

  • Collaborate with other CSWE-accredited programs and engage in CSWE leadership opportunities to guide and implement best practices in field education.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs to coordinate the faculty-driven curricula for field seminar classes with specific focus on the integration of the classroom curriculum and field education.

  • Oversee the process and procedures for application and assignment and timely completion of field.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Masters of Social Work from an accredited college or university.

  • Five (5) years of experience working with college students in student success, academic advising, field/career placement services, or related area at an institution of higher education.

  • Three (3) years of leadership and supervisory experience in developing and directing the work of a team of professional staff.

  • Demonstrated success and experience working with populations from various backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Terminal degree or master's degree completed in one (1) of the following areas:

    • social work (DSW/PhD), higher education, advising, student affairs administration, educational policy and leadership, or student services, personnel administration, or closely related area from an accredited college or university.




  • Demonstrated experience with the implementation of a program review such as those offered by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (e.g., CAS) or CSWE Accreditation.
