Position Summary | The Graduate Admissions Evaluator will support admissions initiatives of graduate programs at Portland State University (PSU). As a front-line point of contact for prospective students, and as a member of the Graduate Admissions team, the Graduate Admissions Evaluator is responsible for services to applicants so they are able to easily navigate the admissions and enrollment process to ensure Portland State University meets its graduate enrollment goals. Primary duties of this position include processing graduate applications, determining the admissibility of student records, notifying graduate departments of any changes in the applicant’s files and inputting all pertinent information into the Slate and Banner systems. At times, the Evaluator will need to respond to inquiries and requests for graduate program information and assist with lifting holds on registration. Duties also include processing changes of application term, working with the Offices of the Registrar, Financial Aid and Undergraduate Admissions to update and/or correct a student’s record. The Evaluator will ensure that all schools attended have been included for holistic evaluation; verify applicants have received a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university; determine residency status for tuition purposes; ascertain the applicant’s qualifications for graduate admission and route through the Special Approval process if requirements are not met. Over time, the Evaluator will potentially acquire a working knowledge of international evaluation including: international credential evaluation, accreditation of institutions and conversion of grade point averages, and determination of the authenticity and completeness of international academic documents. Employees in this position will have regular contact in person, by telephone and in writing with PSU faculty, staff, students, applicants, outside agencies and the general public, explaining criteria used as the basis for decisions made; collecting needed information to compile regular and special reports or complete technical records processing activities; providing requested information of a specific nature when responding to inquiries and complaints. This position will report to the Director for Graduate Admissions in the Graduate School. As a representative of Portland State University, it is important to represent, promote and portray all programs in a professional and positive manner. |
Minimum Qualifications from Classification | Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience. Note: College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. |
