Description: Position Description
Under general supervision, alone or with the assistance of other employees, perform various maintenance tasks associated with the plant operations and production and distribution of utilities, including the installation, removal, maintenance, and repair all types of power plant and steam distribution equipment.
Basic Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent; with a minimum of six years' prior work experience in general power plant maintenance work.
Working knowledge of power plant equipment; be highly skilled in the repair, maintenance, and installation of power plant equipment; be able to read and interpret complicated drawings and blueprints.
Must have thorough knowledge of power plant equipment, maintenance, repair, welding, and basic mathematics.
Requires valid driver's license.
Must have been certified in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX welding qualifications to perform welding on plant piping for 2" through 6" pipe of material and thickness similar to that contained in the plant or submit to a welding competency test.
Must have, or successfully obtain within 6 months of hiring, EPA CFC certification (universal).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Must be detail oriented and have a good safety record.
Must have considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the mechanical trade.
Will be required to operate cranes, forklifts (and/or similar machinery), and other lifting devices.
Must always be physically fit and mentally alert.
Must be able to perform all duties in a utility/industrial plant environment that includes exposure to loud noises, chemicals, temperature extremes, inclement weather conditions, airborne particles, vibration, hazardous materials, stairs, ladders, confined spaces, etc.; requires stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, lifting, and carrying; working from ladders, scaffolds, high-lifts, and in confined spaces; and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 65 pounds.
Required to wear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriate; may be required to wear a negative pressure respirator (or equivalent) and other respiratory protection equipment up to the level of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Required to participate in Hearing Conservation and medical surveillance programs.
Must possess a high degree of professionalism and the ability to work well independently and effectively with others.
Must understand procedures and instructions specific to area of assignment.
Must read and understand maintenance manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.
An ongoing willingness to acquire new skills and utilize technology to streamline processes and problem solve is essential.
Ability to work overtime nights and/or weekends, as needed.
