Job Description
In this role the Electrical Engineer I will participate in new product electrical/electronic development for complex medical device instrumentation systems, such as those which provide advanced in vitro diagnostics.
Responsibilities:
Carry out specific project responsibilities as part of larger program objectives involved in the design and development of products, equipment, or processes. Consults with higher level engineering personnel to resolve more complex design challenges and alternatives. Utilizes electrical and electronic design tools such as schematic capture and FPGA/CPLD/VHDL tools. Implements and reviews designs for reliability, design for manufacturing (DFM), and design for test (DFT) objectives.
Contribute to estimates of effort and duration of specific tasks on a program.
Responsible for completion of tasks according to the requirements and the estimated effort and duration on an assigned project and communicating status to the lead electrical engineer.
Participate actively in the development of requirements, specifications, block diagrams, schematics, FPGAs/CPLDs, simulations (where applicable), assembly drawings, cable harnesses, bills of material, and material costing. Prepare sub-system performance specifications.
Determine design feasibility, evaluate and select optimum design alternatives. Collaborate with the lead electrical engineer and the project team to solve technical problems, design conflicts, manage risks (technical and hazards), integrate/test/debug, and support the customer.
Conduct experiments/testing to evaluate operating characteristics of designs, products, or processes.
Prepare engineering specifications for purchases. Work with suppliers on PCB layout, fabrication, assembly, and other design/test activities.
Evaluate engineering prototypes and translate experimental results into design criteria and specifications.
Provide input to engineering project plans and maintain liaisons with other departments in the organization.
Prepare reports of field tests, startups, or installations as required and write technical instructions.
Support the manufacturing process in sustaining engineering activities and resolving design issues.
Contribute to process improvements.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent scientific discipline with 2 plus years of related experience, preferably with medical devices or motion control products
Must be capable of applying engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Must be self-motivated.
