Since its establishment in 1941, the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art has grown from a small university teaching collection into one of the foremost university art museums in the country. A preeminent teaching museum, the museum¿s internationally acclaimed collection, ranging from ancient gold jewelry and African masks to paintings by Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso, includes more than 45,000 objects representing nearly every art-producing culture throughout history. The Eskenazi Museum of Art has completed a $30 million renovation of its acclaimed I. M. Pei designed building. The newly renovated museum is an enhanced teaching resource for Indiana University and southern Indiana. Positioning the institution as a premier teaching museum requires breakthrough programming, experiences, and storytelling that advance its mission in powerful ways.



Job Summary



The Eskenazi Museum of Art is proud to introduce our Summer Diversity Internship program focused on experiential learning and professional development in our museum setting. The program welcomes students who are curious about art and museum work. Interns will be introduced to different career possibilities and interact with museum and art experts from diverse backgrounds.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • This internship is focused on museums and how they operate as organizations.

  • Museum education.

  • Museum administration.

  • Hands-on engagement with objects in the museum collection.

  • Creative Services at the museum.

  • Development at the museum.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Enrolled full time in an undergraduate degree program at any IU Campus

WORK EXPERIENCE



Preferred



  • Some museum experience

SKILLS



Required



  • Proficient communication skills

  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism

  • Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills

  • Demonstrates a high commitment to quality

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up 20 to 40 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$23.50 per hour



Work Hours



This internship will run only 8 weeks May 13th - July 3rd, 2025


Monday - Friday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM up to 35 hours per week
** (Optional activities may be offered occasionally on evenings and weekends.)
