Job Summary:
Structural Designer experienced with preparing layouts and designs of complex offshore/onshore structural systems utilizing Company 2D and 3D modeling software. They may occasionally be called upon to function as a Project Lead responsible for leading a group of drafters, Drafting Checker and or Coordinator on Project(s).
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare 3D models and drawings for assigned projects from sketches or SACs model output files and/or verbal instructions;
· Manage Project Work Flow to ensure project completion and adherence to project schedules;
· Monitor and mentor the drafters assigned to their project;
· Assist in evaluating and determining manpower requirements for their projects;
· Draft technical details and specify dimensions, materials;
· Edit drawings and incorporate changes from provided markups and/or verbal instructions;
· Create material lists and weight reports utilizing 3D model or manually when required;
· Check drawings and other documents related to the task being performed; verifying correctness and thoroughness fits within project's intent and 3D model/design drawings;
· Review information received from design team members, question inconsistencies, apparent errors, and omissions;
· Interact with design team and clients for resolving drafting/design related issues;
· Ensure that all drawings adhere to Client, Industry and Company Standards;
· Possibly be utilized as a Checker of Structural Design drawings and or layouts;
· Maintain project files and folders and follow company standards;
· Assist in preparing man-hour estimates, budgets and schedules for their respective discipline;
· Responsible for keeping their Project Engineer and direct Supervisors updated on any and all concerns relating to their respective assignments and discipline;
· Perform field work as required to obtain accurate information and create sketches for the design of the project. Duration determined by the project requirements and project management.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
· Requires a minimum of (15) years' experience of structural drafting and design experience with engineering projects in the offshore oil & gas industry;
· Up to five (5) years' experience in onshore or related industry may be considered towards the total fifteen (15) years of required experience;
· Must have working knowledge of MS Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook);
· Proficient with design software i.e. (AutoCAD, Advance Steel and Navisworks, PDMS and E3D)
· Must have a working knowledge of AISC, AWS, API RP 2A, and OSHA standards;
· Must have working knowledge of AISC steel members and AWS weld symbols;
· Familiarity with project systems to include civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into structural design as required;
· Ability and availability to work occasional overtime to include weekends as dictated by project requirements;
· The ability to interact with all levels of staff.
Working Conditions:
· Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations.
· Field duties require outdoor work in a plant or offshore platform atmosphere;
· Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
· Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
· Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
· May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
· May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
