Role description:

As the Utility Coordinator you will ensure that the projects comply with building codes and regulations. You will inspect structures during and after construction to guarantee safety and quality. As the inspector you will be involved assessing blueprints, testing materials, and documenting their findings. In this role you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of buildings and ensuring they meet all necessary standards.

Role accountabilities:


  • Interpret plans, specifications and codes and verifies contract work is performed in accordance with them.
  • Works closely with the utility team on new construction projects; assists with the coordination of utility relocation efforts including all third-party and privately owned utilities and ensures compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Reports problems in the field that need correction and provides recommendations for resolving utility conflicts while ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and Valley Metro's design criteria.
  • Conducts utility plan reviews for third-party utility permits and helps coordinate permitted work with utility owners, construction contractors, and city inspectors.
  • Attends and participates in field meetings and works in a team environment with utility owners and agencies to resolve construction issues, utility conflicts, and scheduling dilemmas.
  • Prepares on-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to the approved standards.
  • Maintains daily activity logs and reports.
  • Monitor contractor testing activities to determine construction conforms to plans and specifications; If not issue Non-Conformance Reports for corrective action.
  • Assist in maintaining, supporting and promoting a safe work environment while complying with safety rules, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates preparation of inspection cost estimates and maintenance records.
  • Arranges, coordinates and oversees technical inspections such as electrical, mechanical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete and asphalt mixes and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements.
  • Coordinates Metro Test Laboratory activities and compares verifications test results with results from Contractors laboratory.
  • May allocate inspection resources and supervise inspectors.
  • Work with engineers, architects, and others involved in the construction process and establish a line of communication with project team members.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 3 years or more years experience which reflect a progressively increasing level of responsibility on complex projects as an inspector of large heavy construction, transportation or transit projects for the appropriate disciplines including utilities, civil, architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, track work and tunnel systems.
• OSHA 30 training certification. Certificates in this classification that exceed this requirement will be accepted.
• Pile installation, structural steel welding, HDPE installation and concrete inspection.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $82,400 - $123,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
