Job Summary:
The PEL position is a key field-based member of the Patient Services team, who is a patient and community-facing colleague who serves as a patient educational resource for local advocacy groups, their patient members, and rare disease patients enrolling into company patient services. The PEL is responsible for educating patients/caregivers on understanding the steps required to gain access to therapy and serving as a primary liaison to patients. An additional function of the PEL is with community-based advocacy and patient groups and their constituents on approved programs, resources, support and services available from company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as primary point of contact for all patient/caregiver interactions and communications to gain initial access and continued support to patients. Deliver company patient services programs that educate patients on access, patient journey and process, affordability solutions and site of care information.
Serve as the primary patient interface for the insurance support from the patient perspective, problem resolution, access support, and education .
Help educate the patient/caregiver on coordination of care, appeals/denials, having adequate product supply and reauthorization requirements and timelines to have more meaningful communications with providers.
Provide patient/caregiver updates on patient support status including appeals/denials, Co-Pay, Bridge, PAP, reauthorization, and reverification.
If requested by a Caregiver, meet with them in-person to review/educate patient journey using only company approved materials in an approved business venue conducive to patient education.
Work collaboratively with all appropriate applicable stakeholders and coordinate with the patient support team to achieve patient education and access.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with local and regional advocacy groups to advance the needs of the patients. During advocacy events, direct to Medical Affairs all requests for medical or scientific information (if available) or refer to the Medical Information Call Center or HCP.
As directed, staff exhibit booths at a PAG events or other patient-oriented events as approved.
Manage the receipt of PAG sponsorship requests and facilitate the review and approval of such requests to Medical and Legal to ensure proper review and approval.
Properly and immediately report any adverse event during any patient, caregiver, HCP interactions to our Medical Information Call Center.
Qualifications

Thorough understanding of local, regional, and national insurance authorization policies and barriers.
Strong disease state knowledge of rare disease and Patient Advocacy with the ability to maintain high ethical and compliance standards aligned with company's Code of Conduct and all policies and guidance provided.

Some overnight travel required 30-50%, depending on geographic assignments.
Education and/or Experience
BS, BA required with equivalent or related degrees in healthcare (e.g. MPH, Nursing or PA);
Fluent in Spanish highly desirable.
Case management, patient services, or pharmaceutical market access experience a plus.
At least 3-5 years of overall healthcare experience in various roles and responsibilities; US pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
Experience in a Specialty Pharmaceutical field-based role is preferred.
Experience in a role centered on the marketing of services to help patients gain access to and/or use a specialty branded drug is also preferred.
Understanding of insurance (Medical, Pharmacy, Home Infusion) benefit designs, prior authorization processes, appeals/denials/exceptions, Buy & Bill process, home infusion and specialty pharmacy treatment pathways.
Proven ability to build, maintain and influence effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
