As the Packaging Manager for Food & Consumables, you'll be right at the heart of our efforts to innovate and optimize packaging strategies across the business. You'll work closely with internal teams and suppliers to streamline packaging, reduce costs, and improve quality-all while enhancing the experience for our members.



This role will be based out of our home office location in Bentonville, Arkansas, and relocation to this location will be required. Additionally, please note that this position does not support immigration-related employment benefits, including H-1B, TN, L-1, or STEM Extension.




What you'll do:



- Omni-channel Packaging Optimization: Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to dive deep into packaging components, driving continuous improvement, margin enhancement, and material reduction across multiple channels.


- Cost Analytics Development: Analyze and develop cost metrics for key packaging materials, particularly focusing on the most common countries of origin, to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.


- Packaging Supplier & Cost Recommendations: Provide strategic support to merchants, product development, and sourcing teams by offering recommendations for packaging suppliers and cost-saving opportunities.


- Packaging Guides & Documentation: Lead the design, creation, and implementation of category-specific packaging guides and cheat sheets, ensuring alignment across teams and enhancing operational consistency.


- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for packaging innovations, driving efficiencies and cost reductions through creative solutions.


- Cost Reduction & Defective Minimization: Consistently find and implement strategies to drive costs out of packaging while reducing defects and improving overall quality.



- Packaging Innovation: Develop new packaging solutions that deliver greater value for the member, uncovering new opportunities for the business to grow and differentiate in the marketplace.


- Design Leadership: Lead and coordinate design efforts between internal teams and external vendors to create packaging solutions that are both functional and cost-efficient.


- Prototype Evaluation & Improvement: Evaluate vendor prototypes and provide detailed feedback, offering improvements or alternative solutions to enhance packaging effectiveness.


- Industry Expertise & Strategic Guidance: Advise senior management on emerging packaging trends, providing insights into optimal packaging strategies and innovations that drive business growth and member satisfaction.



What you'll bring:



To thrive in this role, you'll bring a strong blend of technical expertise and hands-on experience in packaging development, along with a passion for innovation and sustainability.


- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in common packaging software such as ArtiosCAD, TOPS, Adobe Illustrator, or similar tools is essential. You'll leverage these tools to create innovative, functional packaging solutions.


- Testing & Protocols: Experience developing unique test protocols and procedures to ensure packaging meets quality, safety, and sustainability standards.


- Cost Optimization: A solid understanding of standard cost systems to optimize the profitability of new packaging concepts while balancing quality and efficiency.


- Packaging Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of materials, finishes, and processes used in the development of consumer goods packaging, including printing, transportation, and bulk packaging.


- Educational Background: A B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering or a related discipline provides the foundation for this role.


- Relevant Experience: 2-5 years of experience in packaging development, product marketing, or new product development, with a strong focus on designing sustainable packaging solutions.


- End-to-End Design: Hands-on experience with the full packaging design and development lifecycle, from concept to final production.


- Sustainability Focus: Experience in designing sustainable packaging solutions that reduce environmental impact while maintaining cost-effectiveness and functionality.


- Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of industry best practices, including packaging qualification standards, production supply chain requirements, and transportation logistics.


- Prototype Development: Expertise in designing and producing prototypes, working with various substrates like folding cartons and corrugated materials.


- Project Leadership: Proven experience leading packaging projects with a hands-on approach, managing both local and international packaging suppliers to ensure seamless execution.

The annual salary range for this position is $70,000.00-$130,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
