POSITION PURPOSE

The Heavy Truck Shop Mechanic performs skilled tasks in the repair of all fleet vehicles and equipment used by the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
  • Diagnose service and repair trucks/equipment using electronic scan tools.
  • Perform certified annual DOT inspections.
  • Perform routine maintenance services and adjustments on such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches, electrical, hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions and differentials.
  • Perform scheduled PM services.
  • Responsible for parts ordering.
  • Keep tools, equipment and work area clean, organized and in good working condition.
  • Road test vehicles.
  • Any and all duties as assigned.

SAFETY


  • Serves as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state and local laws, as well as Company safety policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 50 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • This position operates in a professional field environment. The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • The employee must be able operate vehicles and trailers in a safe manner in compliance with local, state and federal traffic laws, and must be able to operate equipment, machinery and other tools in compliance with safety guidelines.
  • The employee must be able to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in a variety of different situations.
  • While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK


  • This is a full time 2nd shift position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Work Experience


  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years heavy equipment truck maintenance required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be fluent in English, i.e. must be able to speak, read and write English.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations


  • A current driver's license is preferred. A CDL license is preferred and may even be required for some departments/divisions.
  • Must have a clean motor-vehicle record.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.
