Your Opportunity:

The Herff Jones Production team is looking for a Seasonal Machine Operator to join our team in Indianapolis, IN.

This is a full-time, Seasonal position with the possibility of converting to a full-time associate post season depending on job performance, attendance and department availability.

Shift: Standard shift is 6:00am - 3:45pm, Monday through Friday. Shifts may vary depending on the season and customer demands.

Hours can fluctuate to ten- and twelve-hour days if needed during peak season including Saturdays and Sundays if necessary due to customer demand. Seasons vary between January through end of May.

As a member of the Production Team, you will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment printing high school and college announcements, diplomas, and diploma covers to help our customers celebrate some of their greatest achievements. While you'll lean heavily on your technical abilities, your greatest asset will be your drive and commitment to quality and safety. What We Want You to Accomplish:

First 30 Days:


  • Read detailed work orders to determine setup specifications and efficiently set up your assigned machine.
  • Learn to operate a variety of machines (Offset Press, Windmill, Engraving and others) efficiently and safely to accurately produce world class print products (Diplomas, graduation announcements, etc.).

First 60 days:


  • Initiate trial runs to verify accuracy of machine setup without supervision.

First 90 Days:


  • Observe and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and to determine whether adjustments are needed.

What You'll Be Doing On A Daily Basis:


  • Follow standard operating procedures, maintain a neat and organized work area.
  • Operate various machines (Offset Press, Windmill, Engraving, etc.) safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine adjustments safely during the press run and maintain quality throughout the production process.
  • Perform all assigned work effectively and on schedule.
  • Follow and maintain safe manufacturing practices when working with all machinery.
  • Maintain records of daily production, using paper and electronic forms (Microsoft Excel).
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting and involving the maintenance technicians if help is needed.
  • Team player and do what it takes attitude when other duties are assigned based on business demand.

What You'll Bring to the Table:


  • High School or GED required.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
  • Proven ability (1 year or more preferred) exceling in a high production manufacturing environment which focuses on safety, quality control, and organization.
  • Ability to learn new systems/technology with understanding some work is processed manually.
  • Demonstrated success operating commercial printing equipment preferred.
  • Multiple examples of assisting teammates and working across different departments for short on long periods.
  • Previous success maintaining a strong attendance and on time record.

Physical Activities:

Daily activity includes but is not limited to:


  • Lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
  • Reading, communication, simple math.
  • Long periods of standing on a fatigue mat in a specific area throughout a 10 hour+ shift.
  • Be able to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to above average.
