This position will be responsible for co-ordination and maintenance of a pool of photosynthetic gas exchange measurement systems (LiCOR 6800XT) and provide technical support for physiological measurements on the RIPE project. This position requires work at the laboratory, field and greenhouse.
Duties & Responsibilities
Co-ordination and technical maintenance of a pool of photosynthetic gas exchange measurements systems (LI-6800XT) (including troubleshooting issues, repairs, shipping for repairs and recalibrations, training new users, ordering consumables, calendar co-ordination for researcher use.
Physiological measurements (mainly, but not limited to, photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence and transpiration, with concurrent tissue sampling).
Undertake entry and analysis of the above data.
Statistical analysis of the gathered data, and its archiving.
Design experiments in co-ordination with the team to undertake the above measurements and their analysis.
Additional Physical Demands
Environmental Demands: Greenhouse, laboratory, and field. Ability to carry at least 15 pounds. Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods. Willingness to work during weekends, early mornings and evenings, if necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Agriculture, or related fields. Documented experience in maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation. Experience measuring higher plants and a good understanding of scientific and research practices. Must have access to reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Agriculture, or related fields.
Experience measuring and troubleshooting with LiCOR 6800 photosynthetic gas exchange systems, experimental design for field and greenhouse experimental trials, photosynthetic gas exchange data analysis, statistical analysis software such as SAS or R.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required: Background in plant physiology and measuring photosynthetic gas exchange. Ability to work independently but also as part of a team. Excellent active listening and written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Excel MSOffice. Ability to maintain written records. Willingness to learn and in turn train others. Proactive in problem solving; self-sufficient.
Preferred: Knowledge in statistics and experimental designs, and supporting software, and substantial experience measuring photosynthetic parameters in crop field trials.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. This position may become a non-visiting regular later date depending on funding and a programmatic need. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closed date. The salary range for this position $45,000-$55,000. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position may be renewable at the start of the academic year, and is subject to periodic reviews that include continued participation in theme-related activities, compliance with university policies, and upholding of IGB's commitment to providing an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment.
