Job Summary



Manages statewide, regional, and global outreach initiatives on behalf of the Hamilton Lugar School (HLS) of Global and International Studies. This role works to advance the mission and raise the profile of the HLS and its respective area centers statewide within Indiana, nationally, and globally by developing and implementing new proactive and innovative approaches to international education outreach. Serves as an HLS representative to collaborating units across campus and the university.


Department Specific Responsibilities


  • Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Research, this person works as liaison between the HLS Global and Area Studies Centers and other Indiana University (IU) units, including the Center for Rural Engagement (CRE), Office for the Vice President of International Affairs (OVPIA), and IU regional campuses, to facilitate a range of initiatives.

  • Works to advance international understanding and global competence through outreach and programming to a wide range of statewide, regional and public stakeholders, prospective HLS students, businesses, non-profit and community organizations, colleges, media, and the public.

  • Develops and coordinates initiatives with various IU units and other institutions.

  • Provides general coordination and support for HLS Centers' outreach initiatives, assists in the Title VI grant application and execution process, and develops new partnerships and initiatives that further the goals of HLS and its centers.

  • Maintains and markets the HLS online resource webpage Access Global; assists in the coordination of professional development opportunities in international studies, global affairs, and civic leadership.

  • Develops, fosters, and manages statewide and regional international education programs that will provide more engagement and capacity in international issues.

  • May supervise student employees supporting outreach, as well as collaborating with the HLS Recruitment and Admissions, Marketing and Communications, and Student Initiatives teams so new outreach initiatives support recruitment and retention and lead to a more diversified HLS student body.

General Responsibilities


  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including the creation of materials to support these events.

  • Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities.

  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.

  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.

  • Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants; May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.

  • Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. Tracks progress on deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources.

  • Keeps abreast of best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
