Position Summary
The Project Engineer in industrial construction is responsible for supporting project planning, design, and management across all phases of construction. This role involves close collaboration with the Project Manager, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are executed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in overseeing technical aspects, coordinating site activities, and solving on-site challenges to ensure seamless project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Coordination: Assist in the development of project schedules, work plans, and milestones. Ensure all project activities align with timelines and objectives.
Technical Support: Provide engineering support to on-site construction teams, including interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
Cost Management: Monitor project budgets, expenses, and forecasts. Identify potential cost overruns and propose solutions to keep projects within budget.
Subcontractor Management: Collaborate with subcontractors to ensure that work meets project requirements and quality standards. Coordinate subcontractor schedules and assist in resolving site-related issues.
Quality Control: Oversee quality control processes, perform inspections, and ensure that all work complies with industry standards, safety protocols, and project specifications.
Document Control: Maintain accurate project documentation, including RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, drawings, and change orders. Ensure all documents are current and accessible to project teams.
Safety Compliance: Support safety programs and compliance initiatives on-site. Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards in collaboration with site supervisors.
Problem Solving and Decision Making: Analyze and resolve technical and logistical challenges, ensuring minimal impact on project schedules and budgets.
Skills and Abilities
Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of construction engineering principles, including knowledge of structural and mechanical systems in industrial projects.
Analytical and Detail-Oriented: Capable of analyzing technical documents, identifying risks, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to convey technical information effectively to diverse stakeholders.
Project Management Skills: Familiarity with project management software and tools, including scheduling, budgeting, and cost-tracking.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve on-site challenges efficiently and make quick, effective decisions under pressure.
Team Collaboration: Works well with cross-functional teams, including contractors, architects, and engineers.
Education and Experience
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Industry Experience: 7-10 years of experience in construction engineering, preferably in industrial or large-scale commercial projects.
Certifications: EIT (Engineer-in-Training) or PE (Professional Engineer) license is preferred but not required.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM software, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) is beneficial.
Physical Demands
Work Environment: Ability to work in both office and on-site environments, with travel to job sites as necessary.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and navigate construction sites; capable of lifting up to 30 pounds when necessary.
